What happens when sustainability education meets magic, science, leadership, and international friendship?

The answer could be found in Skopje, N. Macedonia, where students and teachers from Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and N. Macedonia gathered for the international mobility activity of the Erasmus+ project “Sustainable Spells: Using Magic Tricks and Experiments to Promote Eco-Consciousness.”

Organized by NGO POZITIVO Skopje from 1–6 June 2026, the mobility transformed environmental education into an engaging learning journey where participants explored sustainability through experiential workshops, creative challenges, intercultural exchange, and the inspiring world of educational magic.

Day 0 – Arrivals and First Connections

The mobility officially began on 1 June with the arrival of participants from partner countries.

The welcome dinner provided the first opportunity for students and teachers to meet, exchange experiences, and begin building the international friendships that would define the week ahead. Although coming from different cultures and educational backgrounds, participants quickly discovered a shared enthusiasm for learning, creativity, and environmental action.

 

Day 1 – Building Confidence and Learning to Listen

The first working day focused on creating a supportive learning environment and introducing the project’s core values.

Following welcome activities and an introduction to the mobility program, participants engaged in workshops dedicated to communication, active listening, and leadership development.

During the workshop “Communication Skills and Active Listening,” students explored the importance of listening with empathy, understanding different perspectives, and communicating effectively within a team. Through interactive exercises, they discovered that strong communication is the foundation of both successful collaboration and responsible leadership.

The second workshop, “Build Confidence Like a Lion,” introduced participants to the first unit of the project’s Magician’s Leadership Academy. Through dynamic activities such as Roar and Strike a Pose, students reflected on confidence, personal strengths, and leadership presence.

Working in small groups, they discussed questions such as:

• What makes a leader?
• Can quiet people be effective leaders?
• How do confidence and responsibility help us create positive change?

The afternoon brought a special highlight of the mobility: the first session with internationally renowned magician and educator Kiko Magico.

Using a combination of illusion, storytelling, and audience participation, Kiko demonstrated how magic can be transformed into a powerful educational tool. Students discovered that behind every magical effect lies curiosity, observation, creativity, and scientific thinking—skills that are equally important for understanding sustainability challenges.

The day concluded with reflection activities, allowing participants to share insights and personal learning moments.

 

Day 2 – Learning Beyond the Classroom

The second day connected sustainability learning with real-life experiences.

Participants visited our partner school, OU “11 Oktomvri”, where they met local students and worked together on decorating their eco-pots. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity for intercultural dialogue and peer-to-peer learning.

The afternoon program moved beyond the classroom as participants explored Skopje through a guided sightseeing tour. They visited the Museum of Nature and Science, where they deepened their understanding of biodiversity and environmental conservation, before continuing to the Skopje Zoo, where discussions focused on wildlife protection and the importance of preserving natural habitats.

The day demonstrated that sustainability learning can happen everywhere—in schools, museums, cities, and natural environments.

 

Day 3 – The Power of Teamwork and the Three R’s

The third day focused on one of the most important sustainability principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Following energizers and warm-up activities, students explored how everyday choices influence the environment. Through practical examples and discussions, they learned how reducing consumption, reusing materials, and recycling resources contribute to a more sustainable future.

Participants worked in international teams to solve challenges and generate ideas. The activities encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and cooperation while demonstrating that environmental solutions often emerge through teamwork.

The afternoon featured a second workshop with Kiko Magico. During this workshop, students experienced how magic can become a vehicle for inspiration, confidence-building, and public speaking. The session encouraged participants to see themselves as changemakers capable of inspiring others through creativity and action.

By combining scientific principles with magical effects, participants experienced firsthand how learning can be both educational and entertaining.

The workshop inspired students to think creatively about how they could communicate sustainability messages to their peers and communities.

 

Day 4 – Creating Eco-Messages and Celebrating Achievements

The final day of educational activities focused on reflection, creativity, and sharing the knowledge gained throughout the mobility.

Participants began by reviewing key learning moments from the previous days before engaging in workshops dedicated to designing Eco-Message Posters. Working in multinational teams, they transformed their ideas into visual campaigns promoting environmental awareness, responsible behavior, and positive action.

The mobility culminated in presentations of students’ projects, during which participants proudly shared their eco-messages and sustainability ideas developed over the week.

Certificates were awarded during a celebratory ceremony, recognizing not only participation but also the commitment, creativity, teamwork, and leadership demonstrated throughout the program.

The Talent Show, followed by a farewell dinner, provided a final opportunity to celebrate friendships, achievements, and unforgettable memories.

 

More Than a Mobility

The Sustainable Spells mobility was far more than an international exchange. It was a living example of how innovative educational approaches can inspire young people to engage with sustainability in meaningful ways.

Throughout the week, participants developed environmental awareness alongside essential life competencies, including communication, active listening, empathy, teamwork, leadership, creativity, intercultural understanding, and self-confidence.

The inclusion of educational magic, experiential learning, and hands-on activities transformed sustainability from a theoretical concept into a personal experience. Students were not simply learning about environmental responsibility—they were practicing it, discussing it, and imagining how they could promote it in their own communities.

As participants returned home, they carried with them not only certificates and memories, but also a renewed belief that even small actions can contribute to a greener future.

And perhaps that was the most important lesson of all: sustainability may not be magic—but when young people learn, collaborate, and act together, the results can certainly feel magical.
